New 6th Form Centre officially opens.

PRESS RELEASE

Billing Brook Sixth Form Centre

Michael Ellis MP for Northampton North officially opened the newly developed Billing Brook Sixth Form Centre, based on Holmecross Road in Thorplands. The centre is part of Billing Brook Special Academy Trust, which has 225 students aged 4 - 18 situated a mile away.

This newly developed vocational provision is for students aged 16+ with special educational needs. Mrs Grant, Headteacher is the driving force behind this creative initiative. Caroline Grant stated the “It concerned me how many young people with Special Needs do not end up in employment. I believe that our students, wherever possible should have as many opportunities as possible to develop life skills in order to prepare them for the world of work. This new centre with a café and retail area, open to the public, is a positive step to support our aim. I have been so proud of the achievements and progress of the students in the short time we have been opened and I look forward to it being an essential resource for many others in the future. We are now seeking employers to help extend our students skills by enabling them to work in other environments – so if there are employers out there who are interested in supporting us, please contact me”.

The Sixth Form Centre provides an enriched curriculum for students studying a wide range of subjects who also have access to other vocational settings, including Construction, Hair and Beauty, Childcare and Work Skills. This is delivered alongside English, Maths and IT Functional Skills and Duke of Edinburgh.

Michael Ellis MP declared the Sixth Form Centre open and stated that “Café @ The Brook is open to the public 9.30- 2.30 Monday – Friday during term time. We hope that this Café will help bring the community together enabling students to learn valuable skills. Please come along and support these youngsters in this amazing project.”

Michael Ellis MP supports the Northamptonshire Mental Health Awareness Initiative, students and pupils from Billing Brook released balloons supporting and celebrating mental awareness in Northamptonshire.
