Pupil Premium and Sports Premium

Review of Pupil Premium Grant (PPG) at Billing Brook School

What is Pupil Premium?

The Pupil Premium Grant is funding given to the school for the purpose of boosting the attainment and progress of children from low income families. The money is allocated to the school to support those children identified as being entitled to and are in receipt of free school meals, or those who are “Looked After” for more than six months.

How we use our Pupil Premium Money

We are free to spend the Pupil Premium as we see fit. However we are accountable for how we use the additional funding to support the pupils from low income families, which is identified as free school meals and have to publish the information on line.

All our pupils learn in different ways, so we wanted to use the money to show different types of progress – not just academic progress. Activities designed to raise self esteem; improve opportunities to enjoy or be engaged in different types of learning opportunities are just important as improving reading ages or opportunities in accessing other aspects of the curriculum. The outcome, we anticipate each year is that our pupils make at least good, if not outstanding progress, due to the additional or specific opportunities delivered.

PE and Sports Premium Funding

What are Sports Premium monies?

The DfE allocated additional monies to support primary schools to improve the provision of PE and sport in schools, although “schools have the freedom to choose how to do this”.

The intended use of this money at Billing Brook is to use sport as one of our “vehicles” to encourage our pupils to develop healthy lifestyles and reach the performance levels they are capable of.

An additional desire of our school is that pupils enjoy the activities and have fun, in order for them to continue these activities outside of school.

Billing Brook has a commitment to a healthy life style and the main school budget has been matched to ensure no child is disadvantaged in accessing healthy activities.

Catch Up Monies

These monies are allocated to support year 7 pupils in literacy and numeracy.
