Maths Teacher

A high performing special school in Northampton requires a Maths Teacher for February 2018 or earlier.

Billing Brook School is an outstanding, popular and ever growing special school in the Lumbertubs area of Northampton. Currently we have 225 pupils on roll aged between 4 and 18 who have a wide range of needs.

We are seeking a fully qualified Maths teacher to work in our secondary department, specifically in teaching key stage 4 pupils, who currently are working on functional skills Level 1 and Entry Level, BTEC and vocational qualifications. We know from experience that Teachers who have worked in Primary Schools are likely to be able to teach our older pupils. So please do not let the word “secondary” put you off applying. All our staff are required to lead a subject area across the department they are allocated to.

Teaching Assistant Vacancies

Billing Brook has vacancies for Teaching Assistants across all age ranges.

The positions are suitable for someone who is interested in working with pupils with complex special needs and may have had experience as a TA already. However, the school is always keen to develop new staff in gaining appropriate knowledge and is looking for people who are committed to supporting and developing young people with a variety of complex needs.

You need to:
Have a basic understanding of children with learning difficulties and special needs in general.
Be prepared to undertake further training, which may occasionally take place during school closure times.
Have a good basic education which includes GCSE grade C in English and Maths (or equivalent).
Have the ability to use and be prepared to learn how to sign (Makaton), or develop other specific skills linked to the position.

The School has a commitment to developing staff and we are pleased to receive applications from both experienced and non-experienced candidates. Equally, graduates who want SEND experience before embarking on a teaching career may enjoy a short term contract.

Billing Brook is a large special school provision with 222 pupils on role aged 3 – 19. The school is based in the area of Northampton known as Lumbertubs, the position of the school is easily accessible on the bus route and is located near very good transport links.

Many pupils at the school have a combination of needs, such as severe learning difficulties; speech, language and communication needs, autism and some have needs led behaviours in addition to their learning difficulties. Staff are fully trained in the management of behaviour and SEND.

The position is full time (33.5 hours per week) for 39 weeks of the year.

Salary Range £15,613 - £16,491 pro rata
